Lugnetkyrkan i Falun håller stilen!
There is an epidemic movement which has infected even the most conservative
denominations and seminaries, which began in the United States more than a
decade ago, and is now being manifested throughout the Church globally. One of
the founders of this “seeker-friendly” movement is Bill Hybels, Senior Pastor of
Willowcreek Church in the Chicago area.
REMOVE THE CROSS
The Ten Commandments have been removed from being posted in Public Schools and now we are reaping what we have sown — children shooting children — consciences seared like a hot iron. Similarly, now the seeker-friendly philosophy asks the Church to remove the symbol of the cross. Of course, you don’t have to have the symbol of a cross in a church for it to be fervently evangelical or God-fearing. It has much more to do with the REASON the cross is being removed — the theology and philosophy behind this epidemic movement.
BE CONFORMED TO THE IMAGE OF THIS WORLD
This “seeker” or sinner-friendly church growth movement theology suggests that the Church needs to be conformed to the image of the world. But the Apostle Paul writes that we (and the world) are to be conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 12:2). Christ is a rock of offence to the world and we are trying to make Him appealing.
They claim that more than 20,000 people worship at one of their six regional campuses each weekend. The Willow Creek Association (WCA) claims to be an international, evangelical Christian association of more than 9,000 member churches from 90 denominations and 45 countries.
Willow Creek and the New Contemplative/Emerging Spirituality
Recently, headlines about Willow Creek filled the front pages of several online news outlets. The caption stated: "A Shocking Confession from Willow Creek Community Church."
Some wondered if Willow Creek's pastor Bill Hybels was repenting from past errors in ministry techniques.1 But a Lighthouse Trails commentary showed that this "shocking confession" was actually a re-enforcement of Willow Creek's efforts to "transform this planet" through contemplative and emerging spiritualities. The LT commentary stated:
- The overreaching concern, common to almost all the critics, is that "seeker-sensitive" churches compromise the gospel by tailoring their messages to non-Christians: that the use of polished entertainment, feel-good sermons, and marketing techniques subtly alters the gospel that is being communicated. The author of two critical works on the state of the evangelical church -- No Place for Truth and God in the Wasteland -- theologian David Wells says, "I honestly believe [Hybels] doesn't think he's compromising the gospel by using cultural devices, but he seems blinded to the fact that culture is not neutral. ...
The end times and the Apostate Church or the Lukewarm Church. The chief characteristic of today's church is just like what was described to us in Revelation 3 to the Church of the Laodiceans. The Seeker Friendly movement is very rampant today. Today's Church is for mere entertainment and to fulfill the desire of the flesh rather than pleasing God.
