The Spirit of knowledge, the Spirit of understanding and the Spirit of the fear of God all go together. If one receives knowledge of the Bible without the fear of God, its just knowledge and they don’t have the true Spirit of understanding that’s accompanied with the required Spirit of the fear of God.

Isaiah 11:1-4 – “And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse,
and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
2 and the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;
3 and shall make Him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord:
and He shall not judge after the sight of His eyes,
neither reprove after the hearing of His ears:
4 but with righteousness shall He judge the poor,
and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth:
and He shall smite the earth with the rod of His mouth,
and with the breath of His lips shall He slay the wicked.”

The Hebrew word for the word “fear” in Isaiah 11:2 is “yirah” which means – fear, terror, reverent and the root word is “yare’” which means fearing, reverent, afraid.

Most American Evangelical teachers will steer the audience into thinking the “fear of God” means love/respect/reverence which is completely wrong because the audience won’t have the necessary spiritual condition to properly receive the true understanding of the Word of God.

Think about this, in order to fear God, one must have fear, terror and reverence all combined together. Just having reverence isn’t enough. Reverence alone won’t change anyone’s life, but fear and terror will. In fact one could say fear and terror will produce the proper "trembling fear reverence" needed.

The Lord told us in Isaiah 8:13

“Sanctify the Lord of hosts Himself; and let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread.”

He commands us to let Him be our dread. Dreading Him more than any dreadful thing here on earth. More dreadful than anything the ISIS terrorists, the Feds, the New World Order, the alleged UFO’s, whatever fear Alex Jones/Steve Quayle/Tom Horn/Cris Putnam is making money on, the Illuminati, the Jesuits, the Freemasons or any other conspiratorial entity or person. EVEN more dreadful than the coming Antichrist himself.

According to Isaiah 66:1-2, the Lord looks upon those who tremble at His word.

Isaiah 66:1-2 - “Thus saith the Lord,
The heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool:
where is the house that ye build unto Me?
and where is the place of My rest?
2 For all those things hath Mine hand made,
and all those things have been,
saith the Lord:
but to this man will I look,
even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit,
and trembleth at My word. “

The Hebrew word for the word “trembleth” is the word “chared” which means trembling, fearful, afraid and the root word is the word “charad” which goes even further by meaning - to shudder with terror; hence, to fear; also to hasten (with anxiety):—be (make) afraid, be careful, discomfit, fray (away), quake, tremble.

The fear (fear, terror, reverent) of God and trembling (trembling, fearful, afraid) at His word go together and give His followers what is needed in order to properly understand His word.

In fact, if one wants to have true spiritual discernment or any other spiritual virtue such as the list given in 2 Peter 1:5-8, one needs to have the true fear of God and trembling at His word.

2 Peter 1:5-8 – “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

The fear of God (fear, terror, reverent) and trembling at His word (trembling, fearful, afraid) will produce the true –

  • Virtue
  • Knowledge
  • Temperance
  • Patience
  • Godliness
  • Brotherly kindness
  • Charity

The question is this, why are the America Evangelical churches not teaching this proper understanding of the fear of God?

The answer is found in Isaiah 29:13-14.

Isaiah 29:13-14 – “Wherefore the Lord said,

Forasmuch as this people draw near Me with their mouth,
and with their lips do honour Me,
but have removed their heart far from Me,
and their fear toward Me is taught by the precept of men:
14 therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people,
even a marvellous work and a wonder:
for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish,
and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.”

The American Evangelical church teachers don’t teach this because they themselves don’t fear God or tremble at His word. We see Isaiah 29:13-14 has already taken place in the American churches. They love teaching the word, but the fear of God (fear, terror, reverent) and trembling at His word (trembling, fearful, afraid) is completely missing.

Maybe the American Evangelical churches have more in attendance or receive more tithe money or maybe can tell better jokes to the audience by not properly teaching the fear of God or trembling at His word. ??

The proof of this is simple observance. Go into any American Evangelical church in America and you won’t see the fear of God (fear, terror, reverent) and trembling at His word (trembling, fearful, afraid).

The leadership will tell you that the fear of God is love/respect/reverence. They most likely won’t have a response for trembling at the word of God.

Pick a place and see for yourself.

Jesus told His friends to fear Him who can cast into Hell in Luke 12:4-5 –

Luke 12:4-5 –And I say unto you My friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear Him, which after He hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear Him.”

What is a friend of Jesus?

John 15:14 –Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

So Jesus is telling those who obey His commandments to fear Him who can cast into Hell. Why would Jesus say that to those who obey His commandments?

Is it just maybe so they who obey His commandments can still “hope in His mercy”??

Psalm 33:18 – “Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy

Psalm 147:11 – “The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear Him, in those that hope in His mercy.”

There is two elements – Fearing Him and hoping in His mercy, they are connected. Is your pastor teaching you that?

Luke 1:50 – “And His mercy is on them that fear Him from generation to generation.”

Is the American Evangelical church being taught we need to be “hoping in His mercy”?

When we are truly hoping in the mercy of God in the very core of our being, we truly see our utter depravity in which we hope in His mercy.

Jesus came so we could fear Him, tremble at His word, and “come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).”

We need to obtain mercy. Is that being taught? Are you being taught you need to obtain mercy?

The need to obtain mercy from God goes hand-in-hand with fearing God and trembling at His word.

  • It’s AFTER obtaining mercy that we THEN find grace in time of need.

There is a 99.9% chance your American Evangelical church pastor and/or teacher hasn’t or will not teach the fear of God (fear, terror, reverent), trembling at His word (trembling, fearful, afraid) or the need to obtain mercy.

His reasoning will be very creative and he himself will fall under the Isaiah 29:13-14 category. He will most like say “love/reverence/respect” for the fear of God which is the precept of men as stated in Isaiah 29:13.

You might want to pass this on to him and observe how he receives it. He might get really creative.

Luke 13:28
“There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth there when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being cast out.
